Re: Barn find 405
I tried a 205 GTi, most overrated pile of unimpressive shit ever. Crap ride, comfort, performance & handling. It had nothing at all going for it. The 205D I've also tried was better as it was exactly as shit but very cheap to run.
I'll admit pugrots are lot better than renault.

Aye, I'll admit I've never tried a 'performance' model worth actual money.
The 306s I had were brilliant for what I paid for them, which was very little.

Re: Barn find 405
Do these blokes look fuckin’ French to you? No, because they’re the men that lovingly crafted Sunbeams, Humber’s and Hillman in that very factory , proper English Union men that would have downed tools rather than eat a baguette or croque monshit in the canteen.
That’s why the 405 was a good car , and why it sold so well alongside Cavaliers, Sierras and Montegos.

Re: Barn find 405
That would explain why they are regarded differently to most french shite, I've not tried a 405. I can only go off french shit I have tried & that was universally shite.
I'm impressed one was moving too fast for the camera, must have been going on a fag break.

Re: Barn find 405
I've said it before but the 205 you have driven in the past must have been a dog, a sorted/not worn out one is an absolute hoot. Years ago I had an old Mk1 Golf, I'd wanted one for years but was disappointed as when pushed hard it tried to swap ends on me a couple of times to the point I actually slowed down when driving it. By chance the bloke a few doors down got to be manager at the local quick fit and they'd got some new fangled laser alignment bollox down there so one Saturday morning I took it down to see what's what. It turned out it was a fucking yard out. It took me weeks to get used to what it could actually do after that, you could drive the wheels of it and hassle Imprezza turbos on the twisty stuff.
It was a silver Mk1 Gti Campaign 1.8, I'd wanted one for years and the initial disappointment once it was driving straight and I'd sorted the worn bushes on the gearchange was soon forgotten.
If you ever get the chance drive an Mi16 205 with the proper ally lump in it, that's how they should've come out the factory imo.

Re: Barn find 405
I was messing with this again the other day, it's spitting a hose connection off the pump after having an electric inline pump fitted. Turns out the return line banjo needs drilling out a touch to stop it happening. It's also leaking air in somewhere which is proving to be a bit of a twat to find. This isn't helped by the inlet manifold negating access to pretty much everything, especially when the engine is hot.

Re: Big snails
How did you guess? Obviously not happy with a tuned V50 D5 daily with massive brakes!
