Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Driver's side front was subject to reinvestigation last night.
The rear right door had the very rusty remains of a sash channel at the bottom, rattling about. It still had the rubber grip in so I removed and cleaned that, fitted it to the glass and knocked the sash channel back on, which it gripped nicely.
Looking at it, I see why the glass caught where it did. It wasn't cut straight.
I decided I needed to improve on the current situation, so cut a length of metal and applied marine pu sealant to the back.
Left that clamped overnight, that should give a smooth enough surface for the glass to slide up now without getting caught- it was catching on the metal tangs poking through that hold the window seal to the other side. It should have a fuzzy rubber channel to slide in but that's missing.

I had tried to add a plastic runner to the front channel where the glass likes to catch. A chunk broke off a while back, then the glass pulled out of the sash channel. So I pulled the glass and glued the chunk back in.The rear right door had the very rusty remains of a sash channel at the bottom, rattling about. Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
All sounds familiar, this door tale.....I have the same job to do on the Morris Cowley and have just got hold of a s/hand driver's regulator and door catch assembly. I do not think there is anything fundamentally wrong with mine, just wear which is giving rise to annoying rattles and jerky operation. I feel better having another set in case mine has been bodged somehow and won't go back in together.....
These are the kind of jobs which never seem to get done once the car is on the road fully!

Yeah, that's why I'm trying to do all the little last minute jobs before I finish the last mechanical bits that really need doing.mercrocker wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 2:59 pm All sounds familiar, this door tale.....I have the same job to do on the Morris Cowley and have just got hold of a s/hand driver's regulator and door catch assembly. Also another first, locked the car totally with the key. It's now able to be secured that I would be happy walking away from it.
That's a few things off the checklist.

Defog tube is I assume a perforated tube that runs under the dash to feed or replace the vents?

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Almost- the screen heater matrix exits through the firewall into the cabin, whereby it splits into 2 tubes, one for each side of the windscreen.
The vent itself is hidden inside the screen trim, very neat.
The tube is regular plastic stuff with a metal spiral inside to hold the shape, but the heater valve was leaking for years and the metal spiral rusted to nothing and the tube fell apart. Nothing was hooked up when I got the car; the fan didn't work, the heater was disconnected and the selector was jammed to the floor position.
Now that works I think I might get a Y split and put a vent under the dashboard that points into the cabin.
I do need me a vintage fan to put up on the top of the dash though. Being stopped in traffic in the sun sucks with only an open window for ventilation.

Sounds a bugger to replicate if no-one makes them then.

It's the same kind of stuff used in airplanes and VW Beetles, I just didn't go buy any yet.
Also scored a crank ventilation tube for the cost of postage, it's the hot climate one with the flame trap too, which is good.
