Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Do I have to swear backwards at it putting it all back together, too?

Obviously & collect all the bits of your knuckles off the mating surfaces before putting them together.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
It's going to take you at least three posts to explain that as you sort it in a stupidly short amount of time to the same disgustingly high standard as the rest.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
It's all hydraulic pressure and springs, innit
Silver bit on the left is the control valve block. That controls what the box does.
Round piece on the right is all to do with engaging reverse gear.
Removal of this is on page 74

Nothing so far, smells pretty good too. However, that's only the side pan, which sees a large volume of oil flow to flush it through from the control block there on the left.
The real test will be to see the lower pan.

Re: 1951 Pontiac Chieftain
Remember the really horrible wires? Well, this was part of the problem up front. This is all that was left of the insulation that holds the headlight connector together.
So, start with a random piece of brown plastic, measure and mark.
Drill out and cut off.
Cut to length.
File in the notches that stop the connectors rotating.
Clean up the connectors and clamp them on.
Then bolt it to the car. Another the same on the other side tomorrow!
