It's so hacked about with that you can probably use Lada parts.

Indeed, like I said it is not my cup of tea but I do admire the work that went into it much as I admire the work Phil has been detailing on this thread.

Oh for the time and skills.......

Yeah, but for a hacked about one it sure looks pretty.

Today, I put my shoulder out assembling this pile of parts.

Tomorrow I'm going to attempt to get them to sit happily in the case. Today's attempt was a failure; I missed the line that says you gotta smack the crap out of the center bearing to get it to seat correctly.

Frustrating day. Turns out one of the new pieces is a fraction of an inch bigger than the old one and one of the snap rings (buried deep inside the twin drum assembly) hadn't seated well and was catching on the fluid delivery pipe and making everything bind up.

Gearbox is in more pieces than it was this morning and I'm frustrated with it right now. I'm more frustrated with my small snap ring pliers. I need a better pair.

Ok, we are down to the front and rear lash setting on two thrust washers.

I've emailed the transmission place to see which side the lash should be set for the front drum. The rear drum is good and rotates happily (the front no longer binds) but it's all a bit snug when the oil pump is tightened down, ditto the rear bearing carrier.

Apparently it's not.

Tomorrow, take apart time to find out what the hell I put in wrong.

Nah. Hydramatic. They all do that, sir. And if they don't do that, they do something else.

I have little hands on experience with them. The only real one is rebuilding one from a '56 Caddy Coop Devil that didn't want to go forward anymore, just had reverse left. After my rebuild, it went forward alright, but had no reverse. In Hydramatic terms I consider that as a step forward (pun bloody well intended), though.

Thanks who the fuck you want that Imperials are blessed with Torqueflites. I can rebuild them blindfolded and that holds true winning that bet once. We even used a gutted but not reinforced in any way TF in a 392 blown Hemi powered Fuel Altered on 90% Nitro clocking sub 7 second passes all day long. We encountered our fair share of shrapnel in the process, but the box held up.

Wrong depth gasket led to all this nonsense

My dumb ass though broke the oil pump flange. Need to repair that and make up a couple spreader washers to catch onto the bits that didn't break. Moral of the story look more carefully at where the load is going before you start to thump things like a slide hammer.

Need a thinner main thrust washer and it'll be set.
