Disconnecting will put the light on though.

Mostly because I wouldn't know how to test it.

£50 is not 30 minutes work for everyone you know!
Well you will run these posh, hard to maintain, expensive diesels.

I think so, but will it fail the emissions test?
Can I just leave it unplugged?

I can clear that at mot time. It's done a couple of miles and the code is pending, but no light yet.

You can get them mapped out.

Should pass the emissions I think.
As far as I know diesel EGR works at low power & the diesel smoke test is done at full throttle when it'd be shut anyway.

For a change I agree with Hooli about both disconnecting it and when it happens, you'd want fresh air for maximum power not exhaust gas.

Would it affect emissions at the MoT though, although that might not be a problem in the near future I guess?

Incidentally I agree that it's a good idea to start this thread.

EDIT in the time it took me to write this you sods have posted about another half dozen posts so if it doesn't make complete sense it's your fault.

Must open at mid range as the exhaust gas would choke it at start up and idle.

Delphi says you're sorta wrong.

The EGR valve has two primary settings: open and closed, although the position can vary anywhere in between. The EGR valve is closed when the engine is starting up. During idle and at low speeds, only a small amount of power is required, and therefore only a small amount of oxygen, so the valve gradually opens – it can be up to 90% open at idle. However as more torque and power is required, for example during full acceleration, the EGR valve closes to ensure as much oxygen enters the cylinder.
