That’s the question. As my health fades I’m trying to make things easier.

We have A frames ( my favourite), 2 & 4 wheeled dollies & a 24’ ft trailer. They hate them equally - so my thinking, to make life simpler, is a truck.
Not a wheezing transit on a questionable ticket - but something simple to drive/ load.

Hence the question. Insurance will not be a problem. Tax might be ( I’ve no idea on truck rates).

Thanks for that DR. Pretty much my thinking- but I’m looking for the monster problem I’ve missed.

Do any cars built in 2021 still come with the old style odometer fitted or are they all digital now?

Ex scaffold trucks are about the worst used truck buys IMHO.

Would a used LDV spec lift be easier to live with?

The scaffolders I used curse their new truck regularly, dropping into limp for no reason etc, still it's safer than the 7.5t transits that other firms use.

I agree with the above. Scaffolders are always big, rough looking fuckers. Their trucks look hanging and I bet they aren't exactly sympathetic with them.

Spec lift will only carry one. We’re looking to sit 2 or 3 at a time.

I am actually the Operators Licence Holder for a friend that runs 2 7.5 tonne wagons, if being used for recovery within 100kms of base they are exempt from Tachomregs. But recovery means moving a disabled car , not moving a runner from point A to point B or taking a scrapper to the bridge. Hence he usually runs with a disc.

I’m pretty sure if you are only moving your own cars around, runners or not and can prove that they are yours, you fall into the same class as horseboxes and those nutters who cart there traction engines etc around the Country on old F88s and the like. Then no O Licence, no Drivers Hours regs and you can park it where you like, if you were ever to get caught moving a car that wasn’t yours, then a clued up Copper ( rare but they do exist) could come down on you like a tonne of bricks.
Note my use of “ pretty sure” there are so many grey areas that even when you phone Vosa they often won’t give you a,definite answer.
