Re: What did you do today?
Yesterday, I put the Vel satis in for a pre MOT to see if it was worth doing come December or cut the cat out and scrap it. Asked them to thorough with it and they were. It would have had advisories for slight play in inner steering rack joints and all 4 brake discs rusty. Would have failed on poor handbrake effort on offside rear, the corner with the worst disc. So it's being borrowed for a few weeks by the friend who's selling me the cx for a few weeks. I'm happy in the knowledge it's save to use other than the handbrake issue which I'd never noticed. Then on its return it can have new rear discs and pads and it can be used over winter. Hopefully will get it nearer 300k miles. The zx estate is going to the Citroen show this weekend with some for sale signs in before I brave eBay, gumtree or Facebook market place.

Re: What did you do today?
Bloody van has shat a hose.....This is the one with the new engine and all ancillaries (including, allegedly the hoses....) It is a tri-way one, between header tank and block with a feed to the choke actuation on the carb. Hose looks new but upon checking Brickwerks website there is a £16.00 option or a £106.00 option. I bet I fucking know which one I got from the engine fitters.
Be on the phone in the morning as I still have 21 months warranty left. The good thing is the van has not overheated or lost very much coolant, the hose is like a hamster with a urine infection - steady but small and very hot stream!
I only noticed it in a strange way - just been through a nearby town where the traffic was held up so I was, as usual, studiously watching the temp gauge which never rose, the rad fan came on and off as normal but when I got home there was what looked like a patch of oil under the van. It wasn't mine (it was dry and cold) but I felt a sting on a finger which turned out to be pink coolant. Further checking (and it took some time) found the offending pinhole in the hose.
I dare say had I not found it this way it would have reared its head in a much more inconvenient and damaging way. Luckily I haven't booked any more camping until October so got a bit of time to sort it all out. Still a fucking bastard though.

Re: What did you do today?
That's a bugger with the hose, but as you say at least it's not caused any other issues.

Re: What did you do today?
Had this dropped off to me today for a short loan. Bloody hell, its going to save me hours and hours of actual physical exertion.
Only drove it around my garden for ten minutes and already know I'm going to buy it.
It's a 1980/81 Massey Ferguson147.

Re: What did you do today?
Loving that tractor too....
In other news, the engine fitter rang me this morning about my van hose. That hose, despite it's appearance, was only removed and cleaned, inspected and re-used. In other words at least 20 years old. I would have expected it to have been renewed but apparently not - they did advise some needed changing. I'd rather have spent another couple of hundred quid changing all the hoses meself but there ya go.
Never mind, order in for the £100 one (it apparently has a stainless rather than mild steel insert) and still thanking God the fucker didn't let go on the A1 coming from Lincs a week or so back.
In other news, Focus in for MOT today, I'm expecting new discs being required. Had a nice 3 mile walk back across the water-meadows instead of along the main road as I'm sick at looking at queues full of shit cars. Much nicer - saw some geese coming in to their winter grounds and I got a bag full of blackberries.....

Re: What did you do today?
I guess a £16 hose has potential to fail being a shit repro part. Thus the original one on there is likely a
A £100 is a better option but if you did that on every hose, their engine replacement service would be a lot more expensive. Then the customer would groan and potentially go elsewhere with someone with a lower headline price.
Also the trouble asking the customer if they want to have it changed. It becomes something that is "those damn money grabbing mechanics after more money than quoted".
