Re: What did you do today?
When DaughterNo.2 turned 17, I got a nice white Corsa Merit with whatever the smallest engine was on the very firstCorsas.
Anyway second time I took her out she reversed off the drive a bit too confidently and towards her Mums Discovery, I Yelled and grabbed the handbrake— TWANG !!! - the fucker almost came out of the floor and the cable snapped. She panicked, the Corsa hit the Disco, obviously.
She ran inside crying my Mrs came out calling me all the cunts under the sun and I spent the rest of my Sunday lying under a Corsa with WD-40 and rust in my eyes .
Remember you’re not used to pulling a handbrake on with your right hand which is probably a bit stronger than your left.

I'm left handed. It stops and stalls the car no bother. She's just had him out for 15 miles and said he was no bother.

Re: What did you do today?
That reminds me, yesterday I went out with that same daughter ( 32 now) to get a new car. She’s got a horrible little Panda that’s on its last legs that she’s had for the last couple of years after her Volvo XC90 was snatched back when her marriage broke up during Covid. She’s got £1500 and my Mrs said “ It’s OK your Dad can add a bit and get something nice” !!!
So , a mission to find a car that I don’t have to contribute too. There is a lot of sub £500 shit out there for £1500, I can tell you. Obviously I’ve been lurking on the AS for sale area, but even there hasn’t had anything and some of the fantasists trying to pedal scrap on there lately is depressing. ( see my ad.)
Anyway, predictably, I found an old Merc, what a surprise. T reg 2 owner 99k C200 auto, obviously silver, drives nicely everything bar the a/c works. The owner , who was given it 18 months ago when his elderly neighbour died said he regassed it at the end of last summer and it was OK but by this summer it’s leaked away.
£800 , which is twice what I paid for a similar car 7 years ago , but seems a bit of a bargain in the current crazy used car market. She loves it, especially as the seller had fitted a DAB Bluetooth radio to it when he was using it everyday, so it’s got the mod-con she can’t live without, it’s auto and nice and smooth on the motorway. Best of all I didn’t have to put my hand in my pocket.

Sounds like my lads.
They never borrow the cars when the fuel gauge is low.

Do you know what the rule is when you borrow the car without asking?
Always bring it back full of fuel!

They used to be big, too. Just like Mars bars. There's a red 240 estate still chugging around town here, just waiting to see what pegs out first - the car or the driver.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
