What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Van update. Seems to be working. Bled system again using old fashioned way as well as an air bleed system. Loads of White floaty bits came out driver side rear, driver side front had a monumental air lock. Passenger side had a small amount of air. Taking master cylinder off had allowed air we thought we had got rid of to find a way down the lines.
We did check all the vac lines and vac pump. Vac pump is working, one way valve on servo is holding pressure too. Lines are intact and nothing is brittle. Fingers crossed she's alright.
The old bitch has pushed me but it's been a damn good workhorse and I'd rather spend money on this than buy another vehicle.

I had a problem with one the other week that when the pipe was off it fell into a coolant drain tub and got a little water inside. That was enough to fuck up the one way valve. Blowing it through with compressed air really buggered it up so I had to change it.
I have a little hand held trigger thing that was useless at pulling fluid through but was damn good at checking the one way valve. Pretty simple pipework on the old 8v HDI having 1 pipe from vac pump to one way valve and a t piece near pump that goes down the the egr solenoid that is now mapped out so may end up just blocking it off completely. The egr solenoid is unplugged and closed as well as being mapped out so no egr woes.

Speaking of brakes, I replaced the OSR caliper on the A8 today. Quality brands are about £300, so hopefully this one at £94 will last at least a wee while.

Old one was pissing out fluid from the back of the piston:

Horrible, fiddly job with several extra software steps. Thankfully my bleeder behaved itself for a change though. Although everything is alloy, all the bolts were really, really tight and remarkably inaccessible.

I got there in the end though.

New handbrake motor as well

Brakes are still a bit shit and it's now telling me the rear pads are low when they are not. I've been told entering 14mm as their thickness makes the warning light go away so I will try that.

I've always wanted one of these but I'm a bit meh about it after owning it for 4 weeks to be honest. It drives spectacularly well, but it looks just a bit too much like an A6 on the outside, which is a car I hate the 'arrogant middle-management' image of.

I'll keep it until the MOT in July, see what it needs and then decide.

Went to look at an older mini cooper for the young un as a daily yesterday. Only 42k miles on the clock but 10yrs old.

Locally that would be a $15k car, but the place just had it a a ‘Kleenex’ type part ex. so just wanted rid. ($9.5k) 6 1/2 hr drive each way and came back without it for a bunch of reasons.

Car prices here suck!

They are a super car dealership and had a bunch of throw away trades sat outside. This was outside too.

Damn cold as it had just been snowing the night before.
Not too sure whether pedestrians or even car washers will be safe around these things!

Two sets of customers there at the same appointment as us. Note the kid on the right in the last pic. My son said his shoes are $12.5k, jeans 6k and was looking at lambos and an orange McLaren. Was in the sales office as we left.

Of course, muggins was rolling around in the dirt and cold outside, trying to work out whether the mini was worth buying or not (flat battery, brakes seized on, flat tyres, error codes for doors, etc).

Still the 6 1/2 hr drive back with a miffed 15 year old helped no end as we came back empty handed…

Fixed the broken headlight, bumper bracket and front grille on my Passat today after some cunt crashed into it in the middle of winter and fucked off.

Thankfully no real paintwork damage so its as good as new now, I'm bored with it now so I'm tempted to change it for something else.

I saw bloody loads of classics out around the Peaks, many wearing 'drive it day' plaques. Followed a proper S (suffix) plate blue Aston for a bit though Ashford in the Water. It was an awful colour but they still look a proper car.

Had to get some stuff so took the Chrysler out for a waft. It involved getting up to the barn where it currently lives - two cars to do one errand, so much for saving money.....Bastard lit the fuel light up so that was another £20 before the gauge moved. Re-set the clock to BST, put current through everything and bunged it away again. Really should move it on.
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......
