What did you do today?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

Two old Morrises - a Minor and a Cowley. Also a T25 camper. All still on the road and used daily (in turn) but sadly Mrs Rocker only elects to drive the Minor and occasionally the T25. Grand-parent duties have called for additional vehicular support, apparently......

Coming home from my last job of the day in the T4 , the n.s. CV joint starts knocking. Definitely the CV joint . :geek: Swiveling the steering side to side shuts it up ...for a few hundred yards.. Obviously dry of grease and not wanting to break it, I stopped ,got underneath and squeezed the gaiter, with the aim of pushing some grease into the joint . Set off again and its still knocking ..louder and getting feedback through the steering wheel even . Stopped again. Looking in the back ,I have some 90 gear oil , a can of Plus Gas , but nothing to get it into the gaiter . So I stab the gaiter with a screwdriver ,and spray in the plus gas ....Yep , that'll juice it up to get me home ! :D Off I set, and fuck is it banging !!! 100 yards down the road , hoping the joint doesn't break up ,is a clients yard .So i pulled in to have another look, off the road . This time i thought i'd jack it up ,get the wheel off and add more oil .. Taking the wheel trim off , bah... All the wheel bolts are loose
I had a puncture last week , and i did notice the bolt seatings were rusty as the spare lives under the rear and gets plastered in wet and muck .

I have been doing one of my least favorite jobs today and started rebuilding the heads for the Thunderbird. Luckily the seats and valves are all good so just a quick lap in and put it back together. You would think they would of come up with an easier way than the old fashioned stick to grind the valves in, but never mind one head done and one to go.

I quite like doing valves, it's simple & satisfying. For the first few at least then your hands get sore.

I have: cut the stick down and mount in cordless drill at low speed
OR
Clamp stem of valve in chuck of drill once in situe and use lots of lube on the guides, go slowly and make sure your drill goes both ways.

Have always done them like this .......

Not only is the Fuckarse by far the newest thing I have owned (it has one of those nonsensical number plates) it is also the 2nd most expensive vehicular purchase I have made. In mitigation, it is a miserable Style spec in Barbara Cartland eye shadow blue and has a commendable array of switchgear blankery.

Nevertheless, I am handing in my Dark Wob reading room ticket on my way out......
The mk1 was made up to 2004,I had a Ghia spec on a 2000. Oddly there's not much difference between lower spec and higher. Mine was a ghia yet only had leccy front windows, mirrors and AC. Only difference between that and an LX of same age was Ghia had different seats and an armrest. My 2005 MK2 wasnt as nice to drive. Alot stiffer sprung and horrid switchgear

The older ones aren't bad at all. A lot better than the escort. Newer ones not so much. I've currently got a brand new focus parked outside with the 3 cylinder 125bhp engine and 8 speed box. Horrible to drive and can't wait to get my Hyundai back.

Why on earth does anything that isn't either a HGV or 50cc race bike require an 8 speed gearbox, surely the torque curve isn't that poor?
