Re: What did you do today?
Went out for some track bike cranks and to go to NPH II. Got from Stalybridge to Didsbury, back round to Simister Island, mostly motorway miles. Then, the Civic started billowing white smoke out of the back and the temp needle was off the scale. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck. Smart motorway too so no hard shoulder, thankfully I was approaching a services.
Turns out it'd somehow pressurised the cooling system, and blown all the coolant out of the rad cap and a hose above the inlet manifold that blew off. It got home ok after resolving that and filling it with water. Considering the overheat I've no confidence in the engine any more (it HGF'd recently), and the gearbox is shagged.
I'm in talks with an acquaintance that currently owns my old 416GTi but hasn't done anything with it since he bought it 4 months ago.
He's willing to sell it seems, if so the 130bhp twincam D-Series and autobox would slot straight in to the Civic.

So are you just unlucky with this as I've always had the impression that Honda engines are virtually 'bomb-proof', although I guess if it hasn't been maintained properly previously any engine could go?

Re: What did you do today?
My cars with reliable Honda engines have had just that. No issues with either the 1.6 in the Civic (which saw the redline A LOT) or the 1.3 in the Acclaim.
Surely even if it's cooked a head skim would see it sorted? With my Dolly 1850 and its head made of warpanium the angled head studs gave me The Fear so I just torqued them up a bit and it seemed to function decently. Although steady coolant loss and a tendancy to run hot became the new norm...

Re: What did you do today?
Had pip assessment crew out today. Dreading the more than likely battle ahead. The insurance company assessors came out yesterday afternoon to view BMW after I told them there's no way it's leaving my site. They said due to age and mileage it probably won't be repaired. I've told insurance on day accident happened and every time since then I want to buy car back if it's written off.

Re: What did you do today?
I think that it depends on the company.
This happened to my eldest's Pluriel and Tesco, believe it or not, dealt with the whole thing pretty slickly.

Well I've just ring the insurance company and engineer reports state £1585 in repairs. I doubt it will get repaired at that so write off.
