Re: What did you do today?
I reckon it was the day before the designers went on strike when they needed to finish this back end off.
Fuel filler looks like they ran out of cash to do much more. Bet that's fun to undo after ice has compacted and refrozen around it.

You see, I like the TR7, I nearly got one once but insurance costs stopped me. That wanky old Honda with the stupidly complicated roof never appealed at all

Re: What did you do today?
First time I clapped eyes on a TR7 was the brochure somebody brought in to the local meet of the TR Register one night. An old fella looked at and said "That's no TR with the fuel filler over there" and admittedly the things were a leap too far from the TR6 which had naturally evolved from the TR2.
As a 16 year old taking O Levels in the Spring I kind of got that things needed to change, the world was changing (sadly) and this was probably the right answer for the times. "Mann, you're a Harris" was another comment I recall! I did see the giffer's point and I've never really taken to the TR7 anyway.
Didn't take too long for them to start appearing at the meetings, though.....

My last road rally was in a TR7 with an ex Tony Pond V8 and suspension. As a navigator I was very impressed with its turn of pace.

My old one was lower mileage and much more original the last time I saw it for sale. (And a lot more than I sold it for)The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 3:45 pm Unlike a TR7, it hasn't improved style wise with age. There is a reason they are worth fuck all.

As I've said before I always wanted a TR7 in yellow with a black soft top
I also wanted the General Lee as well but the TR7 is affordable

Re: What did you do today?
I never liked the TR7 back in the day but they are growing on me a little now. It would have to be an early hard top with no sunroof though. There are very few British cars that I would consider spending my own money on but the right TR7 might prise my wallet open.

Re: What did you do today?
The TR7 was a bit rubbish in many ways, but everyone over 30 or 40 knows what it is. It has a character and personality that very few Japanese cars have. Toyota 2000GT, the 240Z......er.....Mazda Cosmo.............er.............that's about it.
I admire Japanese cars and their engineering but I have never, ever wanted to own one - or owned one, full stop. There is something about them that renders them just....meh. They are a car and no more than that.

I've owned some steaming shit in my time but never a Jap. For pretty much the reasons Rev. gives. Learned to drive in a 120Y and 160B but that's it...I've had very little to do with them since.

Re: What did you do today?
I had a conversation with some colleagues at work about old British sports cars and the state of the British car industry a few weeks back. Similar age to me, i.e. in their 30s. Pretty much nothing registers to them British pre-90s. The only sports cars the could think of was the MGF/TF, the latest Jag F-Type, classic E-Type and the MGB.The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 10:48 pm The TR7 was a bit rubbish in many ways, but everyone over 30 or 40 knows what it is.
A 30 year old would have grown up in the 90s. Peak JDM. Those people are getting to the peak of their earnings and purchasing power. Hence the large price rises of so much 90s JDM stuff - Supras, Skylines, etc.
Maybe late 40 or 50 year olds may remember Triumphs cars.
Never owned one? You gave the one you owned a pretty glowing endorsement! The Reverend Bluejeans wrote: ↑Wed Sep 07, 2022 10:48 pm I have never, ever wanted to own one - or owned one, full stop. There is something about them that renders them just....meh. They are a car and no more than that.

It’s the benchmark and Ze Germans cannot come close to. Look at all the sorry toss they’ve come out with since 06. N46, N43, TFSI and shit like that.
