Nope, you're not getting confused - I plated the rear chassis sections around the fuel tank in 3 mm steel back in 2018 (and those bits are still good).

But Disco 2 chassis are utter gash, they love to rot... the tinworm had spread almost as far as the trailing arm mounts, and there was literally nothing left behind the top shock mounts. The airbag top mounts had perished too, the whole rear chassis around & above the rear axle was utterly shot.

I've no idea how the back end managed to stay in any kind of shape before I did this job. It should last a few more years now though, it's now in 3 mm steel from the trailing arm mounts all the way back to the (newly fabricated) rear body mounts :-)

"And what was I doing before I spent all of January & the first 3 weeks of February fettling my Land Rover?", I hear you all ask.

Well, I spent all of December helping a mate plate up his 2000 (Y-plate) Disco 2 chassis.

I fecking hate* Land Rovers.

Was the other couple of years spent trying to access the inaccessible Portamig?

Sort of... I generally binned social media for a while because it was just a stress. But in the interim there was a full body rebuild on a mate's early 70s Fiat 500 that took up most of last year and - you won't believe this, so I'll type it slowly - the first ever welding required on my 1994 Calibra...! A small patch required in the OSF wheel arch for its first MOT since 2015. It also got some other joyous stuff like a full stainless exhaust system I found on FB marketplace for £80, and new brake discs & callipers all round.

Great to have you back John!
Did you take the body off the disco or manage the chassis repair with it still on?
