Nothing interesting and I only mention it as it's the first piece of car fettling I've done for a few months.

Wife's alfa mito had a rumbling wheel bearing. £56 from local motor factor.

Couldn't find anything on this tidy tool area. Made a fine change working on something reasonably new (2012).
Piss easy job.
Two bolts for the whole caliper assembly, two wee pointy bolts for the disc and a 32mm hub nut.
The brake pads didn't want to pass the lip on both inside and outside edges, so flap disc met brake disc.
The most awkward thing was getting the dust cap off the hub.
Poor show - a bearing only lasting 50k miles. New bearing didn't have a lot of grease, so I packed some more in. Piece of piss, even a teacher could do it.

I had you down as a super universal tractor oil type of man! Splashing the cash - I bet most of the cost of the oil was delivery.

I could never find a local trailer hire company that did lightweight car trailers. Plus I don't have a tow bar and haven't bothered while not being to tow anything decent weight.

Got a local car recovery guy doing it tomorrow that's been recommended to me by two separate people. 100 quid he quoted for it - a 30 mile / 40 minute journey. Not probably the cheapest but if he turns up, knows what he's doing and gets it done properly then I'm happy.

Sounds ok to me.
By the time he gets there, loads it up, drives 30 miles, unloads it and drives home, he'll be doing well to be less than 2 hours. Then there's his fuel etc.

Yep as Drum said by the time you add loading unloading and faffing about that's not too bad a price, I can't imagine being able to hire a trailer for less than maybe £50 a day - I could be out of touch though, my mind so lives in about 1990 when it comes to prices of stuff so everything I don't buy regularly comes as a nasty shock.

About five years ago it cost 100 quid to get my camper transported 40 miles away.

When a saw the tariff at Indespension Carlisle it was £72 including VAT for a day.

Lack of time, money and equipment too. Really busy, test is not free and no tow bar equipped car. All to do a test which I'd probably only ever use the privileges a handful of times.

Waiting for Freelander gasket to arrive, I tackled the tiny tractor that my Mrs cuts the grass with. We used to have various thirsty and fragile petrol ride on mowers to do this job, so a 40 year old Yanmar was purchased to save money by running on the red stuff.
This plan has gone astray as its become very smokey, which is unpleasant with the exhaust pipe 2 feet from the operators snout.
Injectors were bolloxed and with no pattern parts available new nozzles were £150 each. The seals were not obtainable at all- they're fibre so I reluctantly reused the old ones. These engines are minute, but for some perverse reason the injectors are bigger than on 'normal' sized ones. At last found a use for this open ring spanner. And the money shot, 30 seconds after firing up from cold, a clean exhaust! (It is actually running if you look at the tiny rev counter)
