Not sure where but there's a camp close to work and they're always knocking about. Pretty damn sure it was. It wasn't targeted, just pure opportunity (never taken the car there before) - they saw an old Honda and knew they'd found a quick payday.

I'm conscious that the cat on my Clio 172 is original and thus worth a fair whack. Quite a few buyers on the RenaultSport Facebook group offering £300-500 for original cats. As your Honda is older, it's likely to have a large cat on it too.

Modern cars and cats can get away with being smaller and worth far less. At least an aftermarket replacement will be a lot less desirable and unlikely to be stolen. Just never as easy to pass MOTs with them though.

"It must've been faulty, your honor, that's why it blew a big hole in his chest when it exploded. They're dangerous like that, it's why the manual says not to park over inflammable substances. Shotgun? No your honor, wouldn't know what one looks like."

I've heard of a variation of this by some so called VW T2 restorers.
They take parts off one to restore another and then subsequently replace those with ones from a more recent arrival.
There was one big one in the northwest where they went bust and a lot of people's campers had disappeared, presumably broken or ringed. This was a couple of years or so ago when the restoration market was exploding so a lot of chancers got involved, seeing a quick buck.

Old Honda cat is around £180 in scrap.

Apparently US buyers are paying a lot more. So they're being gathered together into big lumps by buyers and sent over there for more money. Also value entirely depends on the cat and vehicle. 172 cat is apparently around £450, while a 182 cat is less at £275.

Odd.
I had that with .PNG files - worked fine if I resaved 'em as .JPG
