True. It's an estate that's to be regularly used as a load lugger so it'll be spending half its time with the seats down anyway.

I've been playing with the 306 again. Not touched it for a while but it started straight up after I hotwired the glow plugs. Can't work out where this wire goes yet but it seems to stop the glow plugs working!

Anyway that's not important for now, I decided to have a look at the damp interior. Heater matrix is missing coolant. It's been k sealed but when I did that it just stopped any heat coming through so it's really time to change it but it's an arse of a job in these so I bypassed it. I did try to remove the housing but the ancient plastic was brittle and cracked so I just did a cut and shut

Moving on the the steering. It has gone stiff and notchy since it was layed up. I guessed it was the steering universal joint so I took it off. I changed one on another 306 years ago and don't remember it being hard but this one didn't want to come out, I had to lower the subframe an inch. Interestingly loads of floodwater came out when I removed the bolts. Anyway, it was the joint. Seized. Luckily I have some spares but obviously they are all slightly different...

but I can't see anything else needing doing, there was nothing wrong before I drowned it then parked it in the nettles

Oh and I now have a nice new driveway to work on. Beats scrabbling about in the mud.

Its a tribute to these cars that they actually last long enough to be able to rot away.
