I think the amp is ok, if the head unit manages to get some sound down the cable it sounds fine. Something is definitely shorting somewhere and feeding shite down the amp circuitry.

Nothing obvious visibly wrong, will nosy with a magnifying glass and trace the PCBs and joints.

Forgot all about this proper misery spec R-105! Probably at extra money in a DL
CR-107 with a tape deck with DOLBY noise reduction AND METAL tape selector AND FM
Proper old posh CR-201 PLL tuner. Although quite old, it may even be so old that the FM only goes to 104Mhz and the LW is offset 2Khz higher.
Unfortunately, none of this solves your problem and the earliest I might get over is 19th July, but I can see the authorities pushing that out further.

I attacked the Volvo with some 400 grit to see if I could get rid of the lichen marks. I suspect I'll run out of paint, or at least be well into the old yellowed paint job, long before that occurs...

It's more a half arsed proof of concept to see if the paint can be improved.

The short answer is no.

The long answer is no, because the car was resprayed white from grey, that coat yellowed and was given a shit blow over and then the car sat under a tree for 16 years. Sanding back beyond the top coat damage takes you down to yellow, which is also shit but in a different way.

I could paint it, but it may be handy to have a car that is cosmetically shit anyway, for guilt free abuse as a daily hack. Shiny cars are nice but being able to utilise a vehicle as a table/workbench is handy...

Shabby bricks create gaps in traffic better too.
