Roland's trials and tribulations

Some of you know I have a trike. Owned it for over 18months or so. Passed two MOTs at my hands too. Now last Friday I was heading out of Matlock up slack hill with a slow moving truck and traffic,no airflow and the fans doing sweet FA in the heat. I pulled up to let it cool down then carried on my journey. I managed around 5 more miles before it shit itself big time. Coolant temp through the roof, ominous engine knocking,no oil pressure and acrid oily smoke from every orifice and gasket face of the engine.
I'd like to ask you all a favour please. Can you all keep your eyes open for a cheap engine please? eBay engines are £400 plus, money I don't have. I also can't afford the garage fees for head skim and buying all parts to rebuild it which will equate to around 5-600 quid either. If anyone knows of a reliant being broken or happens to have an engine which turns over ok then I'd be willing to pay for it. Thanks.

Yes I know,my thoughts exactly. Fiat FIRE engine conversion maybe? I won't pay 400 plus for an unknown engine, rather rebuild my lump for that cost and have a as new engine!

FIRE engines are superb.

Is it easy to fit one to your trike?

Needs a bell housing adapter fabricated to mate it to the reliant box. And obviously engine mounts etc made up. I'd run it with single point injection if I could find a complete car to dissect. A well used engine in formula 750 apparently

He seems to find everything for his fox,I've actually gave him hints and tips too. I think he gets bits from reliant owners club which is a no go for anything trike or modified. They don't like that round there!

I think he has a spare engine for his Fox but that could be in any condition. Can you recondition yours over winter? Then you'd know you had a 'new' engine ready for the next summer.

That may be the plan, was originally my first plan in all honesty but I do tend to use it a lot anyway and don't like it being off the road. Also it's the only vehicle I possess with a towbar!

I'd first open it and check what's wrong with it.
