Camper fires - does this make sense?

Talk about your cars etc here. Keep it sort of sensible and on topic please.

I had a Disco that was earthing through the handbrake cable once, lots of smoke out of the centre console. It melted the outer which jammed the cable too. I had to use some shit old jump leads as earths and never use the handbrake, as it was a manual this annoyed my wife somewhat, not enough that I ever fixed it properly though.
Fixing Disco handbrakes only works for about a week anyway.

Fun Phact;

When Mike Judge was filming Idiocracy, he picked Crocs as the footwear for the idiotic masses in it. They were only just released at the time, and he thought "these are so stupid, surely they won't catch on". Crocs were popular by the time filming completed and Idiocracy was released.

Erm…was this definitely electrical type smoke?

I am sure you must’ve thought of this, but if it is as it appears an air cooled type 2 you may have a failed heat exchanger or an oil leak - based on the air cooled type 2 panel van I had.

Yep, it looks like the broken speedo cable somehow shorted something out when I moved the heater lever, it's right next to it, and there's quite a few switches with exposed connections at the back. The dash is also metal which probably didn't help.

It's ok now thanks, I took it out a few days ago and it went well.
