Looks like you got a break with that rear arch, I was expecting to find out completely missing behind!

Good stuff SiC

Like I sdaid, get it back to what is left from "as it left the factory". Then you can see the extent of the repair. I know you know etc but the repair panels you got, should not be welded over the top of rusty shite as a previous owner did

Given what rebuild projects are making now, you could make money on this one. Cars that buyers know are solid and not bodged to fuck.

Currently the budget isn't there for a nice fresh and full paint job. Seems essential for making good money in the Classic Car market.

Right now, I'll be just happy to get it done. Both for getting a chance to drive it but also get the E28 in and done.

Initially it will be a mix of red oxide and badly blended in custom tint of French Blue. That custom tint I had made up by a local paint supplier. They couldn't find French Blue on their system so I gave him a sample to match it. I'm not terribly optimistic it'll in anyway match.
But I'm shockingly bad with paint anyway, so I'll need to get a professional to sort it at some point anyway.

Biggest thing is to decide whether to wire wheel back huge amounts of filler or lob large amounts of filler on to try matching the area up. Pretty sure on that rear arch, I'll need to take off pretty much most of that rear quarter paint to find metal that isn't lobbed full of filler. Stupid thing is that most of it is good metal. They just they went to town with the filler to try hiding these welded over panels.

In some ways I don't care too much as if it's solid, a runner and MOT'd then it'll still be worth the same as a project one as a minimum. Even if it needs a fresh paint job. I rather just got it done so I can enjoy it.

Shabby looking cars are better, you can leave them more places without expecting them to be stolen.

You need the French Blue I found here then.

It's the same color as the lower half of the Chieftain (aka baby blue).

The names, they mean nothing

French blue is on a good system. You can still buy a litre or more of paint from a factors.

https://shop.tssc.org.uk/product/400ml- ... rench-blue

Best thing is to paint the whole panel rather than try to blend it. One 440mm can should do for a wing or a door with two double coats. Eight cans should do both sides with ease. Put it on fairly dry and after a week you can 1200 grit and T Cut it.

I'd just add more filler to match what's there. It'll never be a minter so why make life harder?
