2021 - reckoning up

Post by Broccoli »

So what cars did you start 2021 with and what cars will you finish with (yes, I know there’s still time for certain plumbers to change things out).

Did you buy a ‘forever car’ this year and decided a week later that ‘you shouldn’t meet your heros’ and sold it?

Was there a remarkable ‘one that got away’ (ONE that got away - I’m looking at you SiC  ).

What was your easiest, cheapest, most frustrating or expensive car fix.E.g. Kiltox’s Aldi bottle and pipe swap, that looks like it was guarded by dobermans.

What poor brand, make, model or breed, do you have it in for in 2022?

Pictures (where possible) or it didn’t happen! :D

Started:

'77 Dolly 1300 - Partially restored
'83 Triumph Acclaim - Undergoing major structural welding works
'04 Saab 95 estate - Borrowed for several months as all my own cars were fuckerated.

End:

'77 Dolly 1300 - Unchanged
'83 Triumph Acclaim - Back to semi-regular use
'89 Volvo 740 estate - Bought in mid summer as use as winter beater
'17 Peugeot Partner - Works van, pile of shit, can be used privately @ 16p a mile.

New job means... Erm, £100-200 more a month but a 55hr work week instead of 38hrs, so don't have the sort of time required to really get shit done on cars once you factor in it being weather dependant and neighbour friendly.

As for next year? No idea, selling everything aside from the Dolomite wouldn't be a not-sensible approach as the Acclaim and Dolly fill the same "occasional use, local pottering and shows" slot on fleet and the Volvo is as needy as it is handy. Lack of parking and off-road storage will be a hassle with 4 cars...

I doubt I'll be buying anything interesting next year as I don't want to spend £2-3k for a "rolling resto" surviving by the miracle of MOT exemption and the time/space limitations hinder the concept of keeping some 60s shitbox sat outside.
1976 Triumph Dolomite 1850HL - Field based greenhouse.
1977 Triumph Dolomite 1300 - Lean green oil dripping machine.
1983 Triumph Acclaim L - Japanglish daily runner.
1989 Volvo 740GLE Estate - Mobile storage unit.

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?

No such luck it has had a new fuel line, new filter, new injectors, new rail pressure reg, new high pressure pump and the cunt still plays up. It hunts on tick over but not all the time and it can cut out out if you boot it hard up hill and get the revs over 3k it cuts and puts the red eml on. Ignition cycling gets it going again still at the moment. Any ideas are welcomed I really thought the high pressure pump would of fixed it.
