So to change the registration into your name it has to be seen by the CT people? Could you not wait until you have it all fixed up or is it not that simple?Frogchod wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 3:50 pmYou are correct.fried onions wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 1:44 pmCorrect me if I'm wrong but things have been tightened up considerably.
Daft thing is that I've got to drag it in for a CT before I can register it. Which must be done within 30 days.
I think that test will be just a check of vin number, no point in dragging it off the trailer.

It used to be that simple. Now there's a new improved* online registration system (ANTS). The seller has to register it as sold and get a code number then the new owner has to register on line. If numbers or time scale do not match the computer will say no. This works fine for everyday cars, I guess the programmers are about twelve and have no concept of people buying old wrecks. Imports you can do it the old way as they're not on the ANTS database.DodgeRover wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 4:34 pmSo to change the registration into your name it has to be seen by the CT people? It's not bought yet . French paperwork is hindering things. Not helped by the owner* who's name is on the log book has snuffed it.
Present owner* is waiting on options from prefecture.
Waiting is a thing the French do very well

Would UK registering be the answer?
I used to V5c a variety of unusual 2 cv variants and a bunch of JAp imports for a French friend in Alencon- who just couldn’t get them straight onto a CG.
Most were then changed back to CG from British provenance, but I know h e still runs around in a UK‘ military’ soft top 2cv, a ‘British’ Hoffman & an old 70’s London taxi.
Not done any in a while so presume he found a route through....
All registered to him in Sussex!

I was told by a chap from SGS (the company that inspect imports) that the DVLA are now inspecting everything imported now. How true this is I am not sure as that is an awful lot of work checking every import.

Looking at the bottom of the barrel scrap metal that's commonly imported it's about time they do something.

I've offered to pay half the rego cost. This has been accepted by the present keeper.
He tells me he'll start the process on Monday.
If all goes well this beurocratic step will only* take 4 weeks .
With my Buick experience I fear it may take longer.
No rush, I love working on cars in the winter

It's the first thing to screw up if you fill it with DoT4. Which obviously, most careful English drivers did. Otherwise, providing the pipes aren't rotten the LHM system is most unlikely to give bother - I've seen decades-old DS and CX dragged out of sheds with door skins hanging off only for them to start on a mug of fresh petrol then rise up off the ground. It is wise to have an old umbrella in such a situation, just in case off green mist.Danthecapriman wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 12:56 pm I’m shocked the suspension etc worked that easily straight away! I’d have thought that would have been the first thing to screw up.
