Re: Which manufacturers will be fucked in 2030?
"The Inja" on YouTube built his own electric bike using a CB750. Interesting as it showed his mate making up the battery pack. There were issues along the way, all well explained. The total cost was $5,000, but excluded his mates time and knowledge building the packs and sorting the controller. Went well but looked a bit odd, as very angular in places.
He is now building another electric bike, this time using a Ducati Monster as his base. Knowing the pitfalls of his first build he will avoid them, and thinks it will cost well under $5,000.
He is going to give it away at the end of the project, but guess those outside of the USA won't win it

I haven't properly looked at electric motorcycles for over twenty years now. This (KAWASHOCKI III) leaps to mind of the olden days.

Sorry, no data. I looked in Hansard but couldn't find anything and even if there was I strongly suspect it'd be without any useful context. One of the top ten or so accountancy firms may have done something but anything in the public domain is likely to be out of date.SiC wrote: ↑Thu Jan 27, 2022 10:05 pm Got any data on it? I tried searching but couldn't find anything. However company cars are much less of a thing now than they ever have been. Price difference when on finance isn't so large between BEV and petrol/diesel though.
Small electric cars like the Up! struggle to be economically and engineering viable propositions. It's thought the move to BEV could kill the small car off.
I'm with Merc over small cars. Something Up! size is ideal for my missus and her friends, 4 fit in comfortably, it's easy to park and it's fine on A Roads for when she goes further afield, e.g. to Oxford.
The same holds true for my sons.

Big cars are getting smaller and small cars are getting bigger.
As I suspected I was right about everything.

So anything down to a semi-hybrid (electric assist) is acceptable, or does it have to be a full hybrid capable of propelling itself along by electric alone?

I can see this as being a worldwide leveler. The yanks have cheap petrol but do they have cheap electricity?

Uh. My average electric bill is $230/month but I'm on annual average, takes the sting out of June-October running the air conditioning.Warren t claim wrote: ↑Fri Jan 28, 2022 11:26 pm I can see this as being a worldwide leveler. The yanks have cheap petrol but do they have cheap electricity?

Which kind of brings me round to another bugbear question if, in the extremely unlikely outcome, we all drive electric.....

Pay per mile seems to be the current (sorry) favourite.
Which means that we all need a spy in the cab or ANPR cameras everywhere.
Given the government record on large I.T. projects it's not something that is imminent.
