In any case, how can an organisation celebrate a centenary that only existed since 1974? It would be like Austin Rover claiming they started in 1896 with the Thornycroft steam waggon.....

They're probably harking back to their predecessor Imperial Airways, but they didn't kick off until well into the 1920s iirc.

They could always hark back to Otto Lilienthal. Or Leonardo da Vinci.
