4x4 pick up things what are they like

Just wondering if anybody has any strong opinions on the ford ranger and the like as a daily vehicle?
Are petrols available as would be looking at an LPG conversion.

I had an L200. Loved it but not much leg room in the back seats.
I had a canopy which meant the load bed was dry and secure, but getting stuff out could be a pain when it's out of reach.
There are some good storage units with sliding trays that would help that.

I've driven a few new Hilux. They're great off road and drive like a car. Smooth and quiet. Poor on fuel though.

Should add I've driven an older Navara which didn't feel as good as my 2 door Rangie

We had L200's at work, they were wank. Mind you, we actually used them off road which was probably the reason. There's also fuck all room in the rear seats and head room is limited, you can tell they were designed for Japanese dwarfs. The higher up the food chain got HiLuxs instead.
Eventually we got Ford Rangers, a far, far better beast. As they were works vehicles, I've no idea about fuel consumption but I wouldn't even look at an L200 compared to a HiLux or Ranger.

How badly do they rot?

If you drive a Hilux or L200 there is some rule that you have to drive like a complete bellend. Straddle lanes, wave in and out of traffic at 90mph and sit a half inch of people's bumpers. I don't know why, it just seems to be the done thing.

The bosses at my old work up North used to run Hiluxes and they seemed quite posh compared to the cars us factory plebs were running.

Weight I think. A proper rear body would drop the payload below 1 tonne so it wouldn't get tax breaks as a dual purpose vehicle.
