are you sitting comfortably? Then I shall begin
This is how the car arrived, it had been partially stripped down for welding work. The car is spanish registered and bought by the owner last year. It was mot'ed but that lapsed when the owner got thoroughly irritated by a series of blockers placed in his way by the department for the prevention of vehicle registration

removal of the brake lines to the front was easy, most of them were original but being LHD were of no use to me, brake master is new, clutch master is fucked

here we are at the end of the strip down of LHD bits from teh bulkhead. A fair bit of rust was found on the n/s passenger footwell. usual rot space

with the loom out of the way the bulkhead is refreshingly clean and tidy, albeit plastered with Spanish dust

As I needed to fit RHD swivels, rebush the suspension and replace the comedy lift and dead dampers it made perfect sense to remove the whole axle from the car. my rover v8 engine cradle doubling up as an axle cradle

Now bearing in mind that just over a year ago the owner tasked a local garage (to him) to sort it out and get it MoT'ed. Also that the car had covered just 30 miles before an alarming noise caused the owner to garage it...
This is the front wheel bearing, yes that gloopy mess is a tapered Land rover wheel bearing, they are pretty big normally! Root cause was that a spacer between this bearing and the hub nut was omitted! There would have been alarming play in the bearing yet somehow it passed an MOT! It gets dafter

as a result of the destruction of the outer wheel bearing the stub axle was also scrap. It has pride of place in my black automotive museum. The CV joint is out and it rattled like a babies toy! ffs, the garage had also replaced the swivel balls and sweep seals but refitted dangerously dead CV joints. On a spectacularly fucked CV and when on full lock (like reversing into a parking space or going around a mini roundabout a ball can pop out and jam the steering solid.

here I am at the end of day 2, achieved a lot but also sworn a lot at the car

When the garage fitted the new swivel balls I believe that they also fitted new swivel bearings and pins. This one shows damage where the fuckers had used it to press the swivel seat into the swivel ball.
I have explained to the owner and he is taking this up with the garage who charged him good money to make a right fucking mess of it
