Re: Scrapyard Memories
I must be quite boring. Been to plenty of scrapyards over the years, never stolen anything, and never bought a car from them either. I always thought the prices asked for cars were too high as “it’ll break for that m8”

I tried for both a Renault 5 Monaco, and a disabled driver two door MK2 Escort with ridiculously long seat runners. Former too expensive, later "logbook sent off as scrapped M8"

Re: Scrapyard Memories
Ruffgeezer on the beige recently went to windleys in Tattershall, and it looks really good. I need to go and check it out as it’s not far from me at all, and they apparently have a Rover 600 in.
The only fly in the ointment is having to wear a hi-viz to gain entry but I suppose that’s not too bad considering the elf’n safety types have generally fucked most scrapyards into closing entirely or not letting the public in at all.

Re: Scrapyard Memories
Just been to Rosefield in Dumfries to get shot of some scrap from around the farm. Nothing of any interest or consequence sitting about,as you'd expect. The poor old Picasso breathed a sigh of relief once unloaded though.
Sorry for the long-range potato pictures, I tried to photograph a Saab dangling from the crane but this appeared to enrage one of the yard gorillas. No idea why, there's no sign or anything to discourage photography.- mercrocker

Re: Scrapyard Memories
I managed to upset a yard bloke many years ago trying to get photos of a couple of Zodiacs down the end of the "public" area but behind a fence. Apparently the adjoining land was MoD and I "was breaking the Official Secrets Act" (something which I had never signed at that point in my life). Some while later, I saw a completely different MkIII with the same number plate so I guessed that was the reason for his KGB antics.....
There's a great long bar in Rock & Roll heaven.......

Re: Scrapyard Memories
Years ago my train to and from work used to pass a yard like that near New Cross in that there London, I think it may have been a council place where dumped cars were taken to die. It was full of the usual stuff from the 50s and 60s mainly although one day I saw a circa 1958/9 Thunderbird there. It was a shame when they closed it, I used to like seeing the pile of broken dreams.

I don't know where or when that picture was taken but I'm impressed how many Cortinas and Corsairs make up that pile. Best guess is early eighties,so it's probably roughly about the time I was born.

Re: Scrapyard Memories
My neighbour is looking for a big, heavy duty tarpaulin. I remembered I had seen a load of scrap looking lorries in a field not far from us, so thought there maybe a curtain side truck in there.
Found the yard, and it is set in what estimate to be what must be 50 acres, minimum. No curtain siders in at present, but loads of cars. Nothing taken off, or stacked, just go in and take off what you want.
If a car has a decent engine and gearbox, the yard rip them out. Otherwise take what you want, and according to the bloke stripping bits from a Clio, bits are dirt cheap.
Didn't see any crash damaged cars in there, mostly just old.
Going back next week with a toolbox so I can look at the bigger part of the yard that I didn't have time to go to.
