Classic cars as investments?

Don't think this has been covered as such. My cousin thinks he may be made redundant to the tune of £30k.
He's seen the odd classic car he fancied on ebay or something, think a wolseley 6/99 among others. Not really a goer as he's got nowhere at all to keep it, but can it really be a good place to invest your money?

A hot Saxo or Corsa is a better medium term investment.

My mate bought an xk140 drophead , 2008 recession , and said dont go thinking i'm loaded ...i cashed in my pension 65K ... i'm going to enjoy it and hopefully make more in the long run until i retire and sell it .. Worked out so far !

The thing is "investors" are buying early hot Mondeo's and Puma's because historically OSFs have done well in the past. The only reason 70s/80s Ford stuff is worth money today is because it was aspirational back in the day. To guess what'll be worth money in five years just look at what was lusted after 15 years ago.

I can see the right spec E36 BMW fetching good money in a few years.

A leftfield gamble would be the Alfa 156 and 166. 164s are rising in value.

Exactly this. A few of us were discussing what car would you buy tommorrow as a potential investment. Very difficult.

Who would have guessed in 2000 that a 25 year old MkI three door Ford Escort would be selling for what they are 22 years later?

Anything "Gran Turismo 1" will be worth laying down like a case of fine wine. Think Subaru Impreza, MX5, RX7 and especially the early NSX.
