Why would there be different recipes though?
I can understand it if there was an ongoing shortage of a particular component but why otherwise?

I'm guessing it was down to who the original paint supplier was when they went down the line, or possibly simply that different original bulk mixings came out slightly differently due to pigment suppliers changing, staff being less than perfect etc. I remember that literally a few drops of base colour would often be all that it needed.
It really was a fascinating process to watch though
