I took this for an MOT this morning, no exciting guesses on how it did as it failed. Failed on one tyre with cut across the centre of the tread, I knew about it as I pulled a 3" square of ali out of it a few months before the MOT last year. Shame they didn't miss it again...

Got a warning on the other three tyres for being near the limit on the side edges & as the fronts are from 2007 & the rears from 2013 I figured I'd finally have to change them all as I've been saying I will since I got the car. Shopped around online & found Asda tyres (who knew they existed?) where cheapest for anything decent & it's due to get four Goodyear Eagle F1s Asymmetric 2s in the morning. £647 with tracking isn't bad I guess but money I didn't want to be spending. As it's done just under 4k since the last MOT they should last a while.

Oh & the old fronts turn out to be run flats, I didn't know the 'SSR' on the sidewall meant that. It's not meant to have them so the ride should get better too.

Tomorrow morning, but as yet they've not arrived at Halfrauds who do the fitting for Asda. I'll ring again later to see if they've got them.

If they turn up early enough I can get them fitted, the tracking done & pop back to the MOT place to get a retest before 12:30pm when they shut.

Well that was a longer day than planned.

8:30-12:30 fitting slot booked online, so I called the garage to see when the tyres were in. Then I called the garage to see when the tyres were in & then I called the garage to see when the tyres were in. They got delivered to the garage about 11:50am. They said they could do them about 2:30 so I toddled down for just gone 2pm having forgot a road had been reopened so it wouldn't take as long to get there. They were busy so started the job about 3pm & I got the car back about 4:15pm.

Having said that, the ride was a lot nicer on the way back. A lot of the banging & jerking over bumps has gone now it's no longer got run flats on the front. They seem quieter too and it doesn't follow the camber or ruts as much.

I just need to find time early next week to pop back for the retest before Boris' bullshit shut the garages down again.

I hope you did a nice Smokey burnout in the car park to get value from the old ones before changing them

Nope, I've got too much mechanical sympathy for that.

Small dull update - retest done, it's legal for another year.

I scored very low on the autie test. I’m cheerful, happy, confident, like meeting new people, chatty and largely sociable. What the fuck am I doing on this forum?
