I hadn't actually heard of that, but no real surprise it's old fuel hoses that are the risk. Same thing that tends to fail on mobile crematoriums?

Yep.

It's just that they make the news more as people like and notice them whereas a Jag is just a pub landlord runaround.

If you use the A303 and A30 often in summer, it’s hard not to notice them. Tarmac melting mobile Belsen & Hedges.

There were two clean X300 XJ Sports at Thoresby classic show today, one being a dark blue manual - a rare car.

A couple of the Finance Directors I worked for had new company XJs, one a 4.2C and the other a 3.2, both auto.
Not exactly big sample I know.

Glad this is back on the road, sad to think a supercharged V8 NOT destroying the climate when it could be doing so much damage in such a splendid way.

I love series XJ's had a series 2 back in the day (though the series three had just come out but this was old stock and a lot cheaper!) and it was a brilliant car, one water pump and one in-tank fuel sender unit failed in many thousands of miles. XJ-S are utterly shit. The first one I had was a pre-HE and it was great, V reg and not old when I got it (replaced the 'T' reg series 2) and I loved that car even though it went from petrol station to station as I kept putting a fivers worth in at a time and even in 1980 five quids worth didn't take the thirsty old twat far.

Since had several HE's and they are utter crap, even the one that some bod on AS now owns was crap. They don't go, are rust-buckets have the electrical reliability that even uncle Joe would baulk at and understeer like greased pigs over a ton.

Hate the fuckers... watch me get another!

As an aside, an XJ like mine, same engine and year has just gone thru BCA at £8000, apparently, they are getting a following as the last of the 'proper' Jags.

Well that didn't last.

I took it to Glossop for NPH tonight, the steering shake randomly returns, the brakes have gone soft and pull to the right and the three amigos of ABS, ESC and TC are up on the dash.

Looks like I need to make time to strip the calipers down, get the wheels rebalanced (just in case) and fill every ABS sensor connector with WD40 as that fixed it the other year. It needs oil and filter too.

I have contacted the exhaust place but heard nothing back yet. It could also do with rear axle bushes at some point as one is starting to break up.

And just to prove that accountants know fuck all about depreciation and residual values, the accountant at the place I used to work had a beige XJ12 with cloth trim.
