Just got home in this, another £2k poorer for this years repairs...

it drives better than ever, no real surprise as the rear subframe is now attached to the car with more than well hidden fibreglass. Feels really taut & no more slight vagueness in where it's going when touching the power. The back 6-8" of sill have been replaced on both sides as part of the work, so they are currently grey primer. I'll go slap some silver hammerite on in a mo so it's at least sealed for winter.

MOT due in Dec, so hopefully it'll manage not to break anything until then. I have to say though, as soon as I got in it I thought I'd missed this. So it's definitely still a keeper.

Silver hammerite. Get you going colour coded. When I was a lad it was slap bituperson on the sills and if the rest crept up so did the tidemark.

Silver hammerite is what I've got in the garage & it's not stupidly wrong. It's obviously not right, but not stupidly wrong. if/when I get the arches & front wings done I'll get the structural duct tape under the rear light replaced with metal too & get it all done properly.

Not for a few years though.

I doubt it will ever get done! I know you too well. Better to be ropey and sound mechanically and structurally than restored as it's not a garage queen and is mainly used in bad weather. When restored you'd be too scared to park it anywhere!

It'll need doing at some point when they get bad enough. The worst front wing is already a nasty pile of filler that looks like a 5 year old get let loose with plasticine.

I'm putting it off as long as possible though, as you say it's mechanically good & that's the fun bit.

And the structural gaffer tape. I remember you hoofing it around that back lane near mine to then find out the front passenger strut tower was separating. That was fun*

I painted the ends of the sills with a coat of hammerite & then celebrated having a car by going to lidl & doing my first proper shop in months so I've got food in the house. I'll give them another coat this week & then forget about them.
