I'm not convinced someone with a self-confessed preference for wafty autos and quirky* ancient frogs would have any idea what a driver's car is TBH :-)

Evidently a lot more than you do.

A mate of mine that's a pineapple apologist said to me 'dont get an MX5, you'll get bullied'.
This is someone that actively likes MK2 Golfs....

Not least because you can get orderly Z3s for a grand, but only rubbish MX5s.
Drivers car, my arse. Neither of them is by any stretch of the imagination.
Yet a knackered MX5 will still be a better drive than a Z3. But there are plenty of MX5s to choose from to find one that's in reasonable nick.

Providing there is enough structural metal for the car to last a few MOTs, the mechanicals can be easily and cheaply to make a sorted MX5.

Unlike classics, decent quality parts still exist and OEM readily available.

Yeah you'll get a hairdresser car comment. Like owning a Volvo gets you comments about driving an old man car.

Generally these comments are made by people who own a Ford S-Max or a Vauxhall Mokka as their only car.

I have never received a single negative comment about any Volvo I've owned. Much the opposite, in fact, folks love them, especially young people, I've found. I properly blindsided a couple of mates overtaking a tractor on a day out in the Peaks once, they knew nothing of the T5...

The MX-5 seller doesn't seem to be the best replier: he got back to me after 26 hours, at midnight, and I've not heard from him again. Still, he's suggested Friday for viewing. I'm excited.

Not at all, I think you'll find that's an exquisite selection of potential motoring stress :-D

(Apart from the Calibra, which has been virtually faultless over the 15-ish years I've owned it)

Hah, twat.

It actually only ever FTP'd once in about 80,000 miles of daily use, and that was something I did wrong (kinked a piece of rubber fuel hose when fitting it in a hurry, causing restricted fuel flow). It's an ace car.

Anyway what happened to 'I'm getting a Chevy Caprice for my next car'?
