That battery doesn't have anything to do with a company called shield ? They used to make these batteries and they were so bad that even the garages that were next door to the factory wouldn't buy from them as they were that bad.

No I do not think so. Although similar looking I am pretty sure the two firms are not connected. I'm at a loss as to why it's just fallen off a cliff though.

I think years ago I saw something to put in batteries if overcharging has sulphurated the plates, I've no idea if it works though.

I vaguely remember them.
Some sort of tablet if I remember correctly.

Yep, it was in the days of magic metal pellets that improve your fuel consumption by 50% etc..
